Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County

Intent

The Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County has been established to serve and enhance the quality of life for the 8 communities and unincorporated area of Mitchell County.

Mission

The mission of the Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County (FEMC) is to foster private giving, strengthen service providers and improve the conditions of Mitchell County.  To these ends, the Foundation will promote endowment building, grant making, organizational collaboration, and public leadership for the benefit of the Mitchell County area.

Goal Areas

The FEMC Board of Directors, based on feedback from the citizens of Mitchell County, has identified the following major areas of need.  Our grant making will focus on enhancing these areas of need for Mitchell County.

          Life Learning

                   Health and Fitness

                    Environmental Quality

                  Community Development

Board of Directors

·        We are indeed proud of the strength, diversity, and leadership of the eleven Mitchell County citizens that have stepped forward to serve as the first Board of Directors for the Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County.  We have seven men and four women on this Board. In addition, we have members of the Mitchell County Board of Supervisors, Mitchell County Economic Development, and Mitchell County ISU Extension serving in an ex-officio role on this board

Endowment Building

The FEMC Board of Directors raised $55,000 in the Spring of 2005 during a Founder’s Club fund raising campaign.  The Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County was one of six foundations in Iowa awarded a $25,000 endow Iowa matching grant in April.  The FEMC Founder’s Club donors were recognized in July at a special recognition event held at the Blue Belle Inn / St. Ansgar.

On June 9, 2005 the Governor of Iowa signed a renewed Endow Iowa bill which offers tax payers the opportunity to apply (on a first come, first served bases) for a 20% tax CREDIT against taxes imposed in Iowa in addition to the normal state and federal charitable income tax deductions for certain charitable gifts.  The legislature has authorized a total of $2 million in Iowa tax credits in each of the next three years beginning in 2005.
