The Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County Awards more than $60,000 to Local Non Profit Organizations

 

Mitchell County – This morning the Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County (FEMC) wrapped up their 2007 grant making cycle by awarding $68,685 in grant funds to 24 different non profit organizations/projects in Mitchell County.  Projects funded this year by FEMC goal area include:

 

American Cancer Society - Relay for Life

These funds will be used to purchase 4 tents for use in the annual Mitchell County Relay for Life events.

City of Osage - Park & Recreation Board

These funds will be used to purchase equipment for a skate park.

City of St. Ansgar

These funds will be used to purchase a computer and other office equipment for the St. Ansgar Chamber of Commerce.

City of Stacyville

These funds will be used to renovate and remodel restrooms in the Stacyville Community Center.

$3,000

Good Samaritan Society  - St. Ansgar

These funds will be used to sponsor a community-wide blood pressure clinic.

Growing Tree Preschool

These funds will be used to purchase the “Creative Curriculum” for use in this preschool.

Mitchell County Agricultural  Society

These funds will be used to insulate and line the Varied Industries Building at the Mitchell County Fairgrounds.

Mitchell County Economic Development Commission

These funds will be used to conduct a county-wide housing needs assessment.

Mitchell County Environmental Education Foundation

These funds will be used to provide educational programming at the Mitchell County Nature Center.

Mitchell County Historical Society

These funds will be used to purchase display boxes for artifacts.

Noah's Ark Preschool

These funds will be used to purchase a laptop computer for the preschool.

Osage Community Daycare

These funds will be used to support educational programming.

Osage Community School District

These funds will be used to support educational projects at the school.

$5,000

Osage Senior Center

These funds will be used to support the replacement of a stove and oven in the facility.

Riceville Community Foundation – Housing Application

These funds will used toward the local match in a State of Iowa application to support housing rehabilitation in the community.

Riceville Community Foundation – Trail Application

These funds will be used to purchase all the needed trail signage for the Wapsi Great Western trail.

Riceville Community School District

These funds will be used to support educational projects at the school.

St. Ansgar Community School District

These funds will be used to support educational projects at the school.

St. Ansgar Rescue

These funds will be used to purchase blood pressure monitoring equipment.

Stacyville Community  Nursing Home

These funds will be used to replace dining room chairs in the facility.

Stacyville Kids Care

These funds will be used to support educational programming.

Stacyville Economic Development

These funds will be used to implement a “Promote Stacyville” campaign.

Stacyville Library (City of Stacyville)

These funds will be used to purchase tables for the library facility.

These funds will be used to support educational programming.

The total cost of the above funded projects is $454,784.  The Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County grants will leverage $386,029 in other funds to bring these projects to reality in Mitchell County. 

 

Over the last three years the FEMC Board of Directors has awarded $170,820 in grant funding to 58 Mitchell County projects and/or non profit organizations. The total cost for these funded projects exceeds $1.3M and leveraged more than $1.1 M in other funding to make these projects happen!  

 

The FEMC Board of Directors expects to launch their next grant making cycle in September of 2008.  Eligible applicants include 501(c) (3) tax-exempt, not-for-profit organizations and 170(b) units of government organizations.  The FEMC looks to fund

projects that address significant community issues; present innovative, creative, and practical proposals which build on community strengths; develop the leadership potential of the community; involve the people served in the planning and implementation of the program, provide a plan for sustainability beyond the funding period, capital projects that impact a significant number of Mitchell county residents.

 

The FEMC offers grants in the following areas:  Health & Fitness; Environmental Quality; Community Development; and Life Learning

 

The Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County was formed in 2005 with the purpose to foster private giving, strengthen service providers and improve the conditions of Mitchell County.  To these ends, the foundation will promote endowment building, grant making, organizational collaboration, and public leadership for the benefit of the Mitchell County area.

 

The Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County is presently soliciting endowed gifts that will help further this foundation for Mitchell County.
