Riceville is a community of 900 people located in northeast Iowa. It is located in both Howard and Mitchell County. Located on Highway 9, 15 miles from Highway 63 makes Riceville an important hub of northeast Iowa.

The Riceville School district serves the communities educational needs. The school is located directly on the Howard/Mitchell County line.

Riceville was settled and platted in 1855 by Dennis Rice and his family. An election was held in 1892 to incorporate the town, the election resulted in N. W. Jewett becoming Riceville's first Mayor.
