| The Wapsi - Great Western Trail from Riceville to the Minnesota border offers hiking and easy bike rides. This trail will eventually start at Taopi, MN, running south four miles in Minnesota, crossing into Mitchell County, IA and continuing south through McIntire into Riceville and then crossing into Howard County and meandering southeast to Elma, Iowa. Phase II of the project will continue the trail to New Hampton, Iowa. The connection at Taopi, MN will allow the trail to connect to the Shooting Star Trail in Minnesota which will connect to the Root River Trail, giving access to over 100 miles of bike trail when the project is completed. The Cedar River Greenbelt Trail, west of Osage along the Cedar River, provides hiking, mountain bike and equestrian uses. Shorter trails at the New Haven Potholes and Hamlin Garland Wildlife Area provide excellent hiking and wildlife viewing trails. |
